The orientation checklist is a part of the client and patient safety orientation model, the aim of which is to ensure that safety aspects are taken into account in the orientation of social and healthcare professionals and students.

Key areas of the checklist:

  1. Organizational safety culture
  2. Work environment and practices
  3. Risk management
  4. Information flow and collaboration
  5. Patient and client involvement
  6. Personal responsibility and competence development

Use of the checklist:

  • Applied on a unit-specific basis and according to the role.
  • Not everything for everyone – tailored based on role and duration.

The tool has been developed based on the Client and Patient Safety Strategy of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health (Finland).
